n-Butyric Acid - Henkor
What is N-Butyric Acid?
N-Butyric Acid is a truly amazing carp attractor that can be detected by carp even at limited doses. Carp are able to detect this pungent additive even when it's buried in silt, it is truly that strong.
Butyric acid is an organic acid and is part of the carboxylic group of acids. Butyric acid is naturally found in butter and Parmesan cheese. It has a very unpleasant smell which carries very far in the open air.
The taste is said to be acid but it does leave a sweet aftertaste.
Butyric acid can be detected at 10ppb (parts per billion) by mammals, dogs etc. Fish are said to be able to detect N-Butyric acid at this type of level. Humans can detect N-Butyric acid at 10ppm (parts per million).
Where is N-Butyric acid used?
More recently it has been used in the production of commercial fishing bait additives and flavourings. It has been proven that fish find this organic acid very palatable which is why it is such a good additive to be used in boilies.
Some of the most successful flavours like pineapple, white chocolate, buttercream and various berry flavours contain N-butyric acid as part of their makeup. This may be why some versions of the above flavours work better than others, the butyric acid may be in a higher concentration resulting in more fish.
One thing is for sure, N-Butyric acid is an additive not to be ignored and will certainly improve your catch results many times over.
N-Butyric acid suggested levels:
Boilies; up to 1ml/500g of base mix when used on its own. Much less is needed, 2-10 drops, when used with with other flavours.
Particles; add a few of drops in the water after boiling and mix well.
Paste; as in boilies.
Pellets; add 1ml of N-Butyric acid to 100ml of water and spray over pellets as required.
Expander Pellets: use 1ml of N-Butyric acid for every 500g of pellets. Simply add the Butyric acid to the water when soaking the expander pellets.
Deadbaits; inject the N-Butyric acid direct into the fleshy parts of the fish. Make up a stock solution of 5ml of N-Butyric to 100ml of water, use approx 5ml of the stock solution per deadbait.
Always use gloves, do not taste / ingest or inhale, keep away from eyes and children. This stuff is not girlfriend / wife friendly… Use in open air or a well ventilated place...
